Now is NOT the time!
During these challenging economic times all companies are searching for ways to cut back on expenses. Long Service and Performance programs can be very expensive to administer and can be an easy immediate expense cut. Dropping recognition programs only serve as a small savings off the bottom line and creates a huge decrease in employee motivation. Poor employee morale and motivation results in poor productivity which can be easily monitored on the balance sheet.
Instead of cancelling employee recognition programs, now is a perfect opportunity to re-examine current programs to see if there can be more value extracted from the program. Now is the time to examine your supplier to ensure you are getting true value for the dollars you spend.
Some areas to examine are:
- Is there a high perceived value for the gifts that are presented?
- Do the items adequately reflect corporate beliefs and culture?
- Can more or all administrative tasks be outsourced to the vendor?
- Is the program reviewed regularly with the vendor to keep it fresh and cost effective?
- Can your program be easily updated at no additional cost?
- Would smaller presentations or one large event be more cost effective?
- Would an Event Planner provide maximum impact for minimum event cost?
- Would training on recognition applications be helpful?
