Years of Service Award Programs

An Employee Service Award program or often called a years of service program is more than a goodwill gesture for an organization. It provides an ideal opportunity to focus on the service tenure of every employee in your company, one person at a time.
Service award programs traditionally recognize the so called standard milestones starting at 5, 10, 15, 20 years etc. This worked fine in the past but now the problem is that the Generation Y employees, those born in 1978 to 2000, typically only stay at a company 1 ½ years on average. Companies risk losing talented employees by waiting until the 5 year mark to recognize the employee and will not engage the Gen Y employee at all. A recognition culture must be created whereby accomplishments are recognized as they are accomplished, not just tenure, but all milestones as they are passed.
